Description

Maehling Terrace University Apartments. Previously: MARRIED STUDENT HOUSING, 1965. MAEHLING TERRACE UNIVERSITY APARTMENTS, 1968. ARCHITECTS: Weber and Curry, Terre Haute. CONTRACTOR: F.A. Wilhelm Construction Company. DEDICATED: January 4, 1968. NOTES: NAMED FOR THE MAEHLING FAMILY (HILDA, J.J., AND WALTER H.) OF TERRE HAUTE; DISTINGUISHED EDUCATORS, BUSINESS AND CIVIC LEADERS, AND PUBLIC SERVANTS. Located on South 3rd Street approximately ten blocks from campus, the residential complex features two 80-units buildings constructed in 1965 and 1967, and two 112-unit buildings completed in 1969 and 1971. Dedicated Maehling Terrace in 1968, the two 80-unit structures were named in honor of the Maehling family of Terre Haute: Hilda Maehling, alumnae, educator and former Trustee of the University, J. J. Maehling, alumnus, educator and benefactor of the University, and Walter H. Maehling, realtor and friend of the University who served in the Indiana Legislature for 20 yrs.
