Stoolman COST: $132,000.00 REMODELED: 1970 fourth floor added to original structure Notes: At one time Gilbert Wilson murals enhanced interior RAZED: 1998 HISTORY: The construction of the new Science Hall, which had begun with such enthusiasm in 1916, foundered with the turn of national events. By the latter part of 1917, the United States had entered World War I. Delays in material deliveries and available personnel were inevitable. Science was introduced to students when Indiana State Normal School first opened, but the school had long failed to provide enough space for this department. Conditions were alleviated, with the construction of Science Hall. Various other sciences were added and by 1920 they were all organized under one department called "Science." The basement of the building contained laboratories and the office of the College Physician and Nurse. The first floor housed the office of the department and the divisions of geography, geology, and physics. The third floor was dedicated to chemistry. Gilbert Wilson a Terre Haute artist painted a mural of Fred Donaghy, a professor of Physiology and Hygiene, in the main corridor of the Science Hall in 1938. In 1962, the name of the building was renamed the School of Business and in 1981, it was renamed Classroom Building. Science Hall was razed in 1998.
