Description
Located: East side of 6th Street between Mulberry and Eagle. (Where the main quadrangle is now located on the ISU campus) Contractors: William Naylor and William Wines Razed: 1870 Notes: Sold by Vigo County to the City for $7600 as the first unit of the Terre Haute Public School system. HISTORY 1831-Land Brought by Trustees 1847-Construction Commenced 1848-Vigo County Collegiate Institute opened (January) 1853-Sold by Vigo County to the City of Terre Haute for $7600 for use as the first unit of the Terre Haute Public School system. 1869 - Transferred by City to the Board of Trustees of Indiana State Normal School as part of consideration for construction site. 1870 - Vigo County Seminary was demolished. Tuition for the Vigo County Seminary School was $16 for grades above 5 and $13 for lower grades per 22 week term, plus a "small contingent fee for firewood and composition materials."
