Abstract

This research determined if a relationship existed between the Northwest Evaluation Association's computer-adaptive test known as Measures of Academic Progress and ISTEP+ scores. The first goal was to determine if significant differences existed between the ISTEP+ scores of the two groups: schools utilizing NWEA MAP and the schools not utilizing NWEA MAP. The second goal was to further understand the relationship by determining if the degree of implementation of the NWEA MAP test had a significant impact on ISTEP+ scores. The population for this study was established two ways. NWEA MAP schools were established by review of public information made available through the Northwest Evaluation Association's website of member school districts. Schools not utilizing NWEA MAP were established by random sampling. Pertinent data was harvested from the Indiana Department ofEducation's archival information stored on their website. Additional data were obtained through the use of a survey instrument designed to measure a schools level of NWEA MAP implementation. Three hundred and twenty surveys were mailed through the U.S. Postal Service with a return rate of 32%. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The influence of the percent of students receiving free lunch was a repeating significant covariate identified through the use of step-wise multiple regression techniques. Neither null hypotheses was rejected as no positive significant correlation could be found between the use of NWEA with ISTEP+ scores or between the level of NWEA implementation and ISTEP+ scores.
