Abstract
This study was designed as a qualitative investigation of the preparation of physical education teachers within two selected teacher education programs in the United States and Russia. The two institutions under study were Tambov State University from Russia and Indiana State University from the United States of America. The characteristics under investigation included the following elements of professional preparation programs: admission requirements, curriculum content, student teaching experiences, and requirements for licensure and accreditation. The present research reports and analyzes data collected from interviews with six participants and a document analysis of content curriculum plans, a short version of courses' syllabi, admission manuals and handbooks, and undergraduate catalogs. Recommendations for both programs are made based on the findings of the research .
