Abstract
The purpose of the study was to investigate the perceptions of state legislators in the state of Indiana concerning funding for higher education in the state. A survey questionnaire designed to collect data reflecting the perceptions of Indiana state legislators concerning higher education funding was sent to the 150 members of the legislature. An Analysis of Variance was conducted on each of twenty funding variables to test six null hypotheses related to (1) years of legislative service, (2) legislative service as either a representative or senator, (3) district represented being predominately rural or urban/metropolitan, (4) education level, (5) legislative district represented having or not having a public postsecondary institution, and (6) political party affiliation. Differences were found for (1) years of legislative service, (2) district represented being predominately rural or urban/metropolitan, (3) legislative district represented having or not having a public postsecondary institution, and (4) political party affiliation. No differences were found for the funding variables related to (1) legislative service as either a representative or senator, and (2) education level.
