Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore attitudes as a basis for understanding perceptions. Also, better understanding will provide a research-validated basis from which to project pathways for change. This study employed a quantitative methodology and utilized multiple regressions and compared teachers perceptions in regard to inclusive setting for students with learning disabilities in all KSA high schools. The Opinion Relative to Integration survey included 25 questions divided into four factors as criterion variables: benefit of integration, integrated classroom management, ability to teach students with learning disabilities, and special versus integrated general Education†(Antonak & Larrivee, 1995, p. 144). The predictor variables within this study were teachers years of experience, levels of Education, gender, position, and grades taught. The data were gathered from all high school teachers in Riyadh, KSA. The 262 respondents consisted of 75 men, 181 women, and six individuals who did not identify their gender. Based on the findings of this study, male teachers are more positive about integration than female teachers. Also, this study showed that older teachers had more positive outlooks about inclusive Education for students with learning disabilities. Another finding of this study indicates that teachers who had a masters had more positive perception on integration. The results of this study in regard to the type of position showed that special Education teachers generally had a positive opinion of the inclusive setting. Moreover, teachers who had less experience had a more positive opinion of integration. This study found as well that third-year high school teachers had a positive opinion about inclusion for students with learning disabilities. Finally, educators should understand the importance of inclusion of learners with disabilities toward promotion of the students social and emotional behaviors in the society. The Ministry of Education in the KSA must improve its training programs about integration of students with learning disabilities. Additionally, schools must be prepared for a wide variety of students.
