Abstract
The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine whether the establishment and implementation of the Indiana Secure School Grant has had any notable impact on creating a shift concerning the principals perceptions regarding the safety within public schools. Indiana public school principals were surveyed to give insight into the current state of school equipment and personnel for safety within their buildings. 169 principals in the state of Indiana took part in the survey. A three-part survey was e-mailed to the principals. Part one consisted of demographics questions in the form of fill-in-the-blank and multiple-choice responses. Their responses to the statements in the survey were then used to form composite scores on equipment and personnel for the use of this study, which was tested in parts two and three. These composite scores were compared by location type and whether or not they ever received an Indiana Secure School Grant. An independent sample t-tests were used along with a one-way ANOVAs to determine if a significant difference existed among variables. As a result of the analysis, a significant difference was found among two null hypotheses. The analysis revealed that there was a significant difference among the personnel composite score among those schools who received the grant and those who did not. It also showed a significant difference among location types on the school composite score, specifically between rural and suburban schools. A Tukey HSD post hoc test was used then to determine where the difference lied between the location types.
