Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The manuscript was prepared using the associated manuscript template for the correct manuscript section.
  • All tables and figures are created within Microsoft Word and not images.
  • Manuscripts should be prepared according to the guidelines of the current Publication Manual of the American Medical Association. The text adheres to the manuscript types and style guidelines.
  • The manuscript writing is blinded, meaning all names of individuals and institutions have been removed and replaced with "XXX" in the main body of the text.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is prepared in Microsoft Word. The text is single-spaced; uses a 11-point font; uses heading levels; and all illustrations, figures, and tables are embedded in the manuscript file.
  • A brief comments for the editor may accompany your submission, if needed. When prompted during the submission, this may be skipped and left blank.
  • An author and title page must accompany the submission. Each author should include a biography of no more than three sentences and contact information (address, phone, fax, E-mail, and Twitter handle). In addition, the corresponding author (individual who is submitting) will need to provide the information for all contributors on the project. A contributor is anyone receiving authorship for the project. The author and title page is a separate document during the submission.
  • Include an abstract of no more than 300 words in length. Place the abstract at the beginning of the body of the paper. Below the abstract provide the key phrases/content focus from the provided list before starting the manuscript body.
  • The end of the paper should be followed by the acknowledgments, if any, and references. DOIs and URLs for the references should be provided. References should be cited in text using superscripts numerals in order of appearance.
  • Tables or figures/photographs may accompany the submission. All figures, photographs and tables must be formatted according to AMA guidelines. Please blur/block the patient’s face if in photographs and deidentify all patient data. These should be embedded into the actual manuscript writing.
  • I agree to transfer copyright of this article to Clin AT at the time of submission. If Clin AT decides not to publish a submission, then copyright is transferred back to the author at the time the submission is declined.

Peer Review Process

Upon the submission of a manuscript, a technical review will be conducted. The purpose of the technical review is to verify that a manuscript meets the Author's Guidelines and is best positioned for the content review. If edits need to be made, the author will be contacted by the Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor.

Once the manuscript is ready for a content review, it will be subject to a double-blind peer review. All manuscripts are reviewed by reviewers selected by the Clin AT Editor-in-Chief, senior editorial board, and/or Managing Editor. A peer reviewer has relevant clinical or research experience related to the topic. After reviewer selection based on a congruence between the manuscript's title, and keywords and a reviewer's interests, it will undergo a review in which the article can either be accepted for publication, revisions requested, or rejected. The journal aims for the peer review process, after review selection, to last approximately 3-4 weeks before an initial decision is made.

In addition, authors and other individuals with expertise within athletic training may serve as peer reviewers for the journal.

When submitting a revision of your manuscript, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • The reviewers and editors will have provided bubble comments on the document. Please do not delete these comments.
  • Highlight all changes using the yellow highlighter function in Microsoft Word to denote the edits.
  • Respond back to each bubble comment by clicking "reply to comment".
  • If you disagree with a comment, please respond to the reviewer's bubble comment anyway.
  • You do not need to submit an author response document for the reviews. The bubble response comments are the only additional work necessary.
  • Please upload the the manuscript (including abstract and references) with highlighted changes, author and title page, video abstract (including edits if they were made) to the submission manager upon request.
