Aims & Scope
Allusions is dedicated to promoting and encouraging artistic expression throughout the Indiana State University community, across all majors and areas of study. Art is a universal celebration of human nature that invites conversation and introspection, and we hope to spread the joy of art as far as possible. Our editors have worked hard to ensure that the works inside Allusions come from a diverse group of creatives from all walks of life and we are honored to be able to highlight and celebrate the immense talent within the ISU community.
The journal represents work from students across Indiana State University’s diverse community. Recent issues of the journal include work from students of color, Hispanic and Latinx students, international students, students from the LGBTQIA+ community, students from diverse religious backgrounds, first-generation college students, non-traditional students, mothers, and veterans.
Among other wide-ranging topics and concerns, student work published in the journal addresses issues of racial injustice, presents and critiques contemporary experiences of violence, war, and oppression, explores complex issues surrounding gender identity, tackles serious subjects like addiction and suicide, and documents and reflects on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The journal includes student poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, drama, and hybrid-genre work alongside visual art in a variety of mediums, showcasing the abundant talent of Indiana State University’s undergraduate and graduate students. A collaborative effort between the Creative Writing Society and English 485: Literary Citizenship and Publishing, Allusions offers students opportunities for experiential learning through hands-on editorial experience.
