About This Journal

Allusions is an award-winning Literary and Visual Arts Journal showcasing the best creative writing and visual art created by Indiana State University students. The journal is dedicated to promoting and encouraging artistic expression throughout the Indiana State University community, across all majors and areas of study. Allusions includes student poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, drama, and hybrid-genre work alongside visual art in a variety of mediums, showcasing the abundant talent of Indiana State University’s undergraduate and graduate students.

Over the years, Allusions has won awards from the Indiana Collegiate Press Association for both content and design. Work within the journal includes award-winning pieces from ICPA competitions as well as the Indiana Chapter of the National Society of Arts and Letters and the Academy of American Poets.

A collaborative effort between the Creative Writing Society and English 485: Literary Citizenship and Publishing, Allusions offers students opportunities for experiential learning through hands-on editorial experience. The journal is open for submissions each fall, and the and the journal is edited, produced, and published each spring.

Allusions is funded by the Indiana State University Center for Student Research and Creativity. The editorial team is headed by Dr. Amy Ash, Director of Creative Writing, who serves as the faculty advisor. The Editor-in-Chief and Assistant editors consist of students enrolled in the Literary Citizenship and Publishing class, who are passionate about the celebration of art in all forms.
