ARCHITECT: Jenny & Otis, Chicago, IL CONTRACTOR (PHASE 1): W. A. Atkins, Terre Haute CONTRACTOR (PHASE II): Collins and Ohm COST: $7,500 REMODELED: 1938-1939 RAZED: 1950 FUNDING: Money to rebuild the Normal School after fire was donated by the city of Terre Haute. HISTORY When the original Normal School building burned in 1888, it was immediately replaced. The new building was redesigned and built on the old foundation. It was a wide departure from the original design and did not have the light airy appearance of the former building. The building housed everything necessary for the operation of the Normal School--classrooms, faculty offices, administrative offices, a library, and the model school where students practiced their teaching skills. After additional buildings were added, "Old Main" housed only administrative offices. The building was known as the Main Building or "Old Main" until it was razed in 1950.
